A duct bellows, or expansion joint/compensator, is a flexible component installed in ductwork and bus duct systems to absorb movement from thermal expansion and contraction, vibration, and misalignment. Typically made of flexible, durable materials like rubber or stainless steel, they have an accordion-like design that provides the necessary elasticity to protect the system's integrity, prevent stress on connections, and seal against contaminants.  
  • Accommodate Thermal Movement: 
    Systems often experience changes in temperature, causing materials to expand or contract. Bellows allow for this movement without stressing or damaging the ductwork. 
  • Absorb Vibration: 
    Mechanical vibrations from operating equipment or electrical loads can be transmitted through the system. Bellows act as a cushion, reducing vibration and preventing it from reaching other components. 
  • Compensate for Misalignment: 
    During installation or over time, sections of ducting can become slightly misaligned. Bellows provide the flexibility to bridge these gaps and maintain a continuous connection. 
  • Protect and Seal: 
    Bellows provide a protective cover, especially in bus duct systems, preventing dust, moisture, and other environmental contaminants from entering and potentially causing faults.
